NSCI Data Portal: Restoring Oman’s National Statistics Platform
The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) Data Portal provides open government data for Oman, covering population, economy, housing, jobs, energy, and other national statistics. Citizens, researchers, businesses, and developers rely on the portal to access datasets, interactive dashboards, key indicators, and detailed reports — all free to use.
Over time, the platform faced technical challenges that limited its functionality. Uploading large datasets became difficult, some visualizations failed to publish, and multilingual support was inconsistent. Additionally, the underlying infrastructure — Windows Server 2008 and an outdated SQL database — restricted scalability and security updates. NCSI needed a robust, reliable solution to restore the platform’s full capabilities.
Introduct Group led a full technical upgrade to ensure the portal could operate securely and efficiently:
-
Migrated the database to the latest SQL Server instance, removing size limitations.
-
Upgraded the Windows server from 2008 to 2025, enabling ongoing security updates.
-
Diagnosed and fixed multiple technical issues in the codebase, restoring data upload functionality and visualization publishing.
-
Conducted a technical audit to ensure all updates met strict operational and security standards.
Our team used a reverse-engineering approach to analyze the compiled .NET code. We worked with tools such as DotPeek and DnSpy. This allowed us to modify the system even without access to the original source code.
Thanks to the upgrade, NCSI’s portal now operates reliably, supports fresh data uploads, and provides long-term maintainability. Users can access accurate, up-to-date national statistics without interruptions. This project strengthened the Sultanate of Oman’s digital infrastructure and reinforced Introduct Group’s position as a trusted technology partner for government-scale solutions.
The NSCI Data Portal demonstrates Introduct Group’s ability to tackle complex, high-stakes projects, restoring critical digital services and ensuring governments can serve citizens effectively through modern, reliable technology.
